Religious Education Classes
Chalice Children ( 2-3 yrs of age) – Celebrating Me and My World – 10am to 12:30pm
Younger children will listen to simple stories, participate in age-appropriate activities, and to “play church”. Themes include Special Me, My World, and Other People. Play is the primary focus since this is how young children learn.
Option 1- Begin the worship service in the sanctuary and then proceed to room 2 after the Time For All Ages.
Option 2- Begin their Sunday programming in room 2 ( the childcare room).
Spirit Play (PK-1st grade)
Montessori-based storytelling exploring our Unitarian Universalist values and principles using manipulatives and play.
Children will begin their Sunday programming in the sanctuary and then proceed to room 3 for their class after the Time For all Ages.
Explorers (2nd-4th grade)
Four curriculums provide diversity in learning styles and content that children of this age crave. We will explore influential progressive thinkers in “Holy Troublemakers and Unconventional Saints”, moral development in “What Do You Stand For?”, our Unitarian Universalist traditions through advanced Spirit Play stories, and a science component using Earth Circles.
Explorers will begin their Sunday programming in the sanctuary and then proceed to room 10, upstairs for their class after the Time For all Ages.
Connecting Faiths (5th-7th grade)
Connecting Faiths explores Unitarian Universalist principles by actively engaging in the exploration of other faith traditions in our community leading to an increased understanding and appreciation of other faith traditions as they relate and connect to our faith.
Kids will begin their Sunday programming in the Garden Room at 10:30.
Youth (8th grade and up)
“On The Road Together” explores monthly themes connected to our adult worship services using creative worship, games, meditations, reflections, stories, art engagement, discussion starters, etc. Discussions and activities focus on our UU values and principles and how they relate to our ever-changing world.
Teens and Tweens will begin their Sunday programming in the Teen Room at 10:30.
On Sundays:
Worship Activity Bags/Binders: Should your family choose to keep children in the sanctuary during the service, activity bags are provided for children (or adults, for that matter!) who need something to do with their hands during the service. Please help your child put the materials back into the bag and leave the bags in the lime green fabric boxes at the back of the sanctuary so they can be reused week to week.
Family Room: Across the hall from the kitchen is the Family Room. Parents who wish to take their infants or young children out of the service for any reason may go into the family room to continue to see and hear the service while tending to their child’s needs.
For Our Youngest Friends:
- Childcare: NUUC childcare is available for children 2-3 years of age. The nursery is staffed by childcare workers every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Wee Worship: We have a “Wee Worship” area with floor blankets and toys for our youngest congregants in the Sanctuary.
