March For Our Lives – Protest Against Gun Violence Saturday, June 11 from 9-10am at North Shore Park
For 18 months we protested in support of racial justice at the Peace Bridge (North Shore Park). Now we have an opportunity for a reunion, and all are welcome. Our friends at the NAACP are endorsing and encouraging participation at a protest sponsored by March For Our Lives, an organization formed by survivors of the Parkland High School shooting in Florida. Come on out and bring your signs supporting March For Our Lives and working to end gun violence. Saturday will be hot and sunny, so please also bring sunscreen and water. We will meet at the Church at 8:20 and arrange carpools from there. From NAACP president Carl White:
The goal of the demonstration is to have an impact of presence in numbers. We are hoping this event will attract people from different perspectives and maybe people who have never taken a visible stand. As advocates of change, we need to start somewhere. Maybe just agreeing we need to work together to end gun violence can be that “somewhere”.
Therefore, there will be no speeches, bullhorns, or shouting at this event. This is not a political event, but one that will draw attention to commitment to address an issue of morality, safety, and civility. Carried signs should plainly be about March for Our Lives and Working to End Gun Violence. This is about being part of a movement happening all over the country on June 11!
The Woodlands Township has graciously approved this event, so please help us follow their requests.
