Arts In Action: Thank you!
First of all many thanks to all of you who came out and supported our charities (NAACP of Montgomery County and Angel Reach), bought Art Dash Tickets, and brought food to this year’s Art Dash. So far we have raised $2000 for Northwoods SEE Justice programs and $4760 for the charities, and we’re not done yet. Art is still for sale – you can buy any piece still on display for $20 through Sunday (see Kate Rhoad at church to purchase), and you can still donate to our charities through Auctria.
We’d also like to thank the organizing committee (Rusty Rhoad, Kate Rhoad, David Shontz, and Greg McDonnell) for their hard work bringing it to life. Our wonderful performers and storytellers made it a special evening (the show has been recorded and we are working on making it available). And no event is complete without cleanup—special thanks to Sara Moser, Mira Dessy, and all others who set up, washed dishes, and got the sanctuary ready for the service on Sunday.
Northwoods is a force for good in our community, and that happens because of your support. We hope you’ll continue to turn out and support our social justice efforts.
Supporting Charities
Meet the Charities:
ANGEL REACH: Angel Reach’s core mission was formed with the desire to break the generational cycle of abuse, neglect, and homelessness by equipping aged-out foster youth and homeless youth to live independently as well as providing critical services and support to relatives doing their best to keep children out of the foster care system.
“Our vision is to help children and youth achieve their full potential in spite of the obstacles placed on them by broken families and a broken system.”
MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHAPTER OF THE NAACP: The vision for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.
“For the past twelve years we have pursued the national and state NAACP goals and initiatives: promoting voter awareness and registration, working with political organizations and candidates to present their platforms to the community, providing a venue for financial planning and management, participating in College Prep Workshops, presenting scholarships to graduating seniors in Montgomery County, sharing resources with community members, and assisting with legal redress and criminal justice issues. In 2017, we joined the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition and participate in the ‘Point in Time’ count of homeless people in the community.”
