Our Minister

OUR MINISTER
Reverend Ellen Cooper-Davis

Welcome! I’m delighted that you have found your way to Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church.  Our church is a religious home to a wide variety of people—young and old, gay and straight, partnered and single, life-long Unitarian Universalists and those seeking a church for the first time.  We are artists and musicians, teachers and social workers, professionals and full-time parents, engineers and volunteers.  Whatever your story, wherever you find yourself in your journey, this is a place where you can come to be inspired, challenged, held, involved, and nourished.

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal faith in which we encourage you to bring your mind, as well as body and spirit to church.  Our congregations vary in style from one another, but we do hold in common the values of inquiry, right relationship, celebration, community and spiritual seeking.  Northwoods is a vibrant, active UU church with many opportunities for connection and involvement for all.

I have been serving Northwoods since 2008.  A graduate of Meadville Lombard Theological School and the Institute for Spiritual Leadership, both in Chicago, I also bring with me prior careers in technical writing and in professional theatre and puppetry.  My call to ministry is shaped in part by my faith in the power of being present to one another, by the potential that results from intentional times of reflection and renewal, and by the urgent cries for justice, compassion, human dignity and interdependence that sound daily across our world.  Through connection, reflection and action, our personal faiths become collective, and the world can be transformed.

Together, we can create the beloved community that we envision—not in some distant future, but in each moment.  Questions?  Please click here to contact me.

Blessings,
Ellen
