Northwoods New Minister

Reverend Ellen Cooper-Davis

The Ministerial Search Committee invites you to meet our New Minister, the Reverend Beth Ellen Cooper-Davis.

A little over a year ago, the Northwoods Congregation asked seven of its members to come together to form a search committee to find a new settled minister for our church. Over the intervening months, the members of this committee have worked diligently to listen to the wants of our members, understand the needs of our church, and develop a concept of what we want in a new settled minister. We also needed to create a loving but accurate image of our church that we could communicate to ministers who were in search. And finally, we began a process of reviewing candidates as they revealed their talents, hopes, and aspirations to us.

This journey has been long, tiring, and deeply emotional. Along the way we have gotten to know the church, each other, and ourselves better than we could have ever imagined. Although all of us joined this task with different interests and perspectives, we came together with the common purpose of finding not a good, but a great new minister for Northwoods. As part of that process we came to understand that we had to embrace the concept that the right answer might be to come back with no candidate, rather than bring in someone in whom we did not have complete confidence. While this was not easy to accept, in the end we were all strongly committed to this ideal.

However, it gives us great pleasure to tell you that the members of the congregation Called the Reverend Ellen Cooper-Davis to become our new settled minister.  She has a very strong sense of spirituality. She is committed to a Unitarian Universalist theology. She has demonstrated an intellectual rigor that will challenge all of us to think deeply. And, she is a very captivating speaker. As you can see, we are very excited about her and the potential her ministry presents for our church.

Ellen, her husband Andy, and their 8 month old daughter Lilith will be moving to The Woodlands in July.  Until then please contact anyone on the Search Committee or the Board of Trustees if you have questions about Rev. Cooper-Davis or her ministry.
