July & August 2008, Honduras Clinic
Since 2003, NUUC
members Lynn Rippelmeyer and Joy George have led efforts to assist the residents
of Tegucigalpa, Honduras by collecting, transporting, and distributing donated
items (shoes, clothing, medical supplies) and money to a clinic that serves the
low-income and poor. In 2007, a group of Northwoods members accompanied Lynn and
Joy on a mission trip to continue that assistance in a more direct way. The trip
was beneficial to all, and plans are underway by other NUUC members and friends
for continuing such connections.
Honduras, the second poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, struggles to
right itself after devastation by natural disasters in the past decade. The
assistance of NUUC is felt directly by those who live in urban Tegucigalpa, the
country’s capital, and the impoverished mountainside villages that surround the
city. Once the clinic and its patients have benefited from our July & August
2008 Share the Plate offerings, Lynn and other traveling members will share with
the congregation the results of our donations.
